Blog Entry Eurorennen 2009 by Techniq posted on Jul 02, 2009 03:50 PM 0 comment(s) —
This was my first official car show in which I not only attended but also participated in. I got a chance to run my car on the 1/4 mile track and took home a lot of valuable knowledge.
Blog Entry IC Pipe Section Corrected by Techniq posted on Jun 09, 2009 12:51 AM 0 comment(s) —
After very little debate I had Phantasm Motorsports fab me a custom piece of IC piping to replace the inadequate silicone hose that was restricting my air flow. It only took them about 2.5 hours and all is well.
Blog Entry New Coilovers by Techniq posted on Jun 01, 2009 02:09 PM 1 comment(s) —
It took a while but now the coilover debate has been settled. Realizing that I don't need 3-way coils that allow adjustment for camber, dampening/rebound and height, but only the latter helped in making this decision. I went with a group buy opportunity on my Audizine forum for ST Suspensions (of KW Germany) sport coilover kit. The price was about $300 less than the retail. I took a quick pick on the camera phone to share.
Blog Entry Time to Race! by Techniq posted on May 26, 2009 05:33 PM 1 comment(s)
Ok, so you see from the upcoming event I'm going to Eurorennen 2009 in Jacksonville, NC. My brother-in-law is rolling with me and we've got a room for Friday night since things start at 08:00 that Saturday morning. But the ultimate question is "to race" or "not to race". I've never raced my car in a track or drag strip and I'm always wondering what I would put down for the 1/4 time.
Blog Entry Fixing the eBay FMIC by Techniq posted on May 25, 2009 10:25 AM 1 comment(s) —
When I decided to get a FMIC I honestly could not see spending close to 1k for it. But apparently the best cost right around this mark. After much reading is occurred to me that I needed to evaluate the overall goals for my car. This would led me to a decision that would cost the same or more than the 1k FMIC to begin with.
Blog Entry New Rotors and Pads by Techniq posted on May 05, 2009 11:21 PM 1 comment(s)
I recently came across and good deal to get front & rear slotted/x-drilled rotors for my A4. As the rear rotors could not be turned anymore and the pads were down to nothing I saw a great opportunity to upgrade all four.
Blog Entry Juniper JNCIA-FWV Certification by Techniq posted on Apr 30, 2009 05:26 PM 0 comment(s)
It had been so long since I had the opportunity to sit in an IT training course and go for another certification, I honestly forgot. Thinking back, it was probably 2000 since I received any formal training from my employer. Well, two employers and two outsourcings later I get Juniper training and three weeks later pass the JNCIA-FWV test. I think next up is the JNCIS-FWV, followed by some Cisco and Checkpoint stuff that I never renewed.
Blog Entry My A4 Pictures by Techniq posted on Mar 23, 2009 06:05 PM 0 comment(s)
After owning my A4 for almost 2 years this is the first time I decided to take pictures of the ride. Of course only after getting my 18" Kyalami rims by TSW did I feel the car was worth the pictures. I also polished up the tailpipes and chrome lips of the wheels. I really wish I could lower the car at least an inch but the incline of my driveway prohibits this even though I currently have about 1.75-2.00 inches of room when entering. Problem is with the stock springs I could never pull up my driveway with people in the back seat or any amount of weight in the trunk. I have some more research to do, but I do believe that with spring spacers and stiffer race springs I may be able to get that drop my car so desperately needs.
Blog Entry Custom 3" Exhaust Install by Techniq posted on Feb 17, 2009 08:52 AM 0 comment(s) —
The previous post was about the custom 3" exhaust I purchased from a fellow audiziner for $500. This was a Vibrant custom exhaust featuring resonators, mufflers and 4" tips. The installation was straight forward conceptually, but the real world can be so different.
Blog Entry Audi A4 Exhuast by Techniq posted on Feb 12, 2009 06:13 PM 0 comment(s) —
As you may remember my plan to get those BBS RGR rims failed and I had to resort to looking for another mod for my A4. Well, the best thing is an exhaust to enhance the performance. I had several popular choices which included APR, AWE, Neuspeed, Milltek and GHL.
Blog Entry Snowfall in Jan 2009 by Techniq posted on Jan 20, 2009 11:26 AM 0 comment(s)
Not only was it the day of the inaguration of the 44th president but also a good snowfall for the Raleigh, NC area. We haven't seen a decent one in a several years so it was nice. Also, a first for my daughter who didn't get to play in it, but enjoyed watching it fall.
Blog Entry A set of BBS RGRs? by Techniq posted on Jan 18, 2009 11:49 AM 0 comment(s)
I thought I had a new set of rims coming my way. I debated it over and over again to the point that I eliminated all doubt. It all started with a basic visit to Just Tires to get an alignment done on the Explorer after installing a new pair of front wheel hub assemblies.
Blog Entry On the job with Elana by Techniq posted on Jan 10, 2009 04:44 PM 0 comment(s)
It was a Saturday and my wife was at work, so it was just Elana and me. A teammate called asking if I was able to go into the data center raised floor to address two firewalls that got hung up during an upgrade.
Blog Entry Collage Pages for Plone by Techniq posted on Jan 02, 2009 04:50 PM 0 comment(s)
If you've ever wanted a more professional looking Plone site that provided content pulled from different sources then the Collage product is for you. I recently converted my front page to one using Collage and my satisfaction is growing. The only thing I want to add is thin bordering about each Collage item. Other than that, this product is very much appreciated.
Blog Entry Ford Explorer Hub Assembly Replacement by Techniq posted on Dec 30, 2008 11:30 PM 0 comment(s) —
I've known for a while that eventually I need to get the wheel bearings on my '02 Ford Explorer replaced. After some very unpleasant quotes for the parts and labor I decided I would get my hands dirty and do the repair/replacement myself. I used a very good online instruction but as it was geared towards the previous model/series there are few modifications that I felt would be good to share.
Blog Entry APR Stage 1+ by Techniq posted on Dec 27, 2008 10:25 PM 0 comment(s) —
Last year when I had the APR Stage 1 program mapping installed on my A4s ECU I was already planning for 1+. So shortly thereafter I purchased the TT225 386cc fuel injectors which are required for the stage 1+ application.
Blog Entry PowerBook on the IRL by Techniq posted on Dec 25, 2008 04:04 PM 0 comment(s)
In many sports if your player(s) is injured then that person is usually placed on the "injured reserved list". This denotes that the player is unable to play due to physical injury. Well, my Apple PowerBook is current on the IRL due to 'blocked female power receptacle. Yes, I dropped the PB and it landed on the power connection while the cable was attached. It broke the male pin and left the tip lodged in the female receptacle. Of course it will not come out. Looks like I'll be going in for surgery.
Blog Entry Home DNS Design by Techniq posted on Dec 08, 2008 01:04 PM 0 comment(s) —
While not quite slit-DNS I have decided to use two separate DNS servers for internal versus external queries. This is considered best practice by many and makes DNS alot easier to manage. Of course this was all made possible by the fact I moved my old tunnel broker service with go6.net to he.net (www.tunnelbroker.net) and as a result the tunnel was moved from one of the Xen DOMUs to the Juniper Netscreen.
Blog Entry ipv6 tunnel broker switch by Techniq posted on Dec 05, 2008 02:49 PM 0 comment(s) —
It didn't take long me to switch away from go6.net's client/daemon based approach to 6in4 tunneling. This is clearly good for PCs but earlier this year I purchased a Juniper Netscreen NS-5GT firewall and was lucky enough to come across newer firmware that not only supported IPv6 but also 6in4 tunneling.
Blog Entry go6.net v6udpv4 for NetBSD by Techniq posted on Nov 30, 2008 07:18 PM 0 comment(s)
When operating the tspc client for the go6.net software and your client is behind a NAT device the client needs to be able to use NAT-T for the 6in4 communication. By default the client only mentions Windows, Linux and FreeBSD as supporting the NAT-T feature for 6in4. However, I've discovered this is possible for NetBSD 4.0.1 which I'm currently running.
